How to Hard Reset Sony XB 13

We explain here how to hard reset the Sony XB 13 to return it back to default factory settings. So hard resetting recreates the factory default state on the XB 13. Plus, it erases any previously connected Bluetooth devices from its memory. Erasing these stops this unit from joining to any close by BT devices. Also, you should hard reset to get this speaker ready for sale or re-gifting, or to stop the auto connecting with devices you no longer wish it to join with.

How to Hard Reset Sony XB 13, Step by Step

1. Power UP the XB 13

Press the Power button for a half-second or so and then release it.

Then, the status light comes on, as shown next.

The speaker may make a high-low tone sound when it powers up, should it auto link to a nearby device. Or it may make nary a sound if it does not. Yet whether it joins or not, this hard reset routine works the same, as follows.

2. Press and Hold the Play / Pause and Volume UP Buttons at the Same Time

Find these buttons as we show next. Both are near the bottom of the speaker, as called out in the next picture.

The XB 13 then enters hard reset mode.

After a little pause, the speaker powers OFF, and the status lamp goes dark, as shown next. Note that on the XB 13, there is no power-down tone.

3. Check that the Hard Reset Did Indeed Happen on your Sony XB 13

Next, power on the mini speaker again, as we detail in step 1.

Note that after a hard reset, the XB 13 comes up in discovery / pairing mode. The Power lamp blinks blue rapidly to signal this. This is a prompt that you may then look for this speaker on a nearby BT device, and pair to it if you so desire.

Hard reset is now done. So you may now gift or sell the speaker, or connect it again with your favorite Bluetooth devices.

After a hard reset, the XB 13 no longer auto pairs with any prior linked Bluetooth device. Thus, to restore automatic pairing, you first manually pair it with a device. Then after that, any time that both speaker and that device have Bluetooth turned on, and they’re near to each other, pairing automatically takes place once more.
