How to Pair Sony Speaker to iPhone 13

This post explains how to pair a common Sony speaker like the SRS Extra Bass wireless series, with an iPhone 13 or other smart device.

How to Pair Sony Speaker to iPhone 13, Step by Step

With your speaker powered off (status lamp is dark), run through this routine to pair it to your iPhone mobile device.

1. Bring up the Home Screen on your iPhone 13

First off, press the Home button to get to the iPhone’s Home screen. Now our test phone here is the 12. But the pairing routine is the same for the 13.

2. Find the Settings App

We found ours on the second page of the Home screen, as shown next.

3. Bring Up the Settings App

Thirdly, tap the Settings app icon.

The iPhone 13 then displays the first page of its settings, as shown in the next step.

4. Go to Bluetooth Settings to Continue with How to Pair Sony Speaker to iPhone 13

The Bluetooth settings screen displays as follows. Note that our Bluetooth is enabled here. But since our BT speaker is currently powered OFF and so, not in discovery mode, it does not appear in the BT devices list. Also, we don’t see it since we’ve never paired this Sony speaker with this test iPhone before, it should not appear here.

E.g. See this as shown in this list of previously paired Bluetooth devices, shown next.

5. Turn On your Sony Speaker

Press and release the Power button to power up this speaker.

E.g. See the Power button pointed at by the green arrow in our example speaker, in the next picture.

The speaker then powers up.

But since an iPhone 13 does not know about this speaker if never paired to it before, the Sony will not link with it automatically. The pairing status light pointed at by the arrow in the next picture may either blink fast, slow, or remain dark therefore, to denotes this not-paired state.

6. Put your Sony Speaker into Discovery Mode

Now, to see your BT speaker on your iPhone, place it into Bluetooth pairing mode. On many Sony speaker models, you press and hold the Power button until you hear a couple beeps.  Also, some have a status lamp that begins blinking white or blue.

7. Find your Speaker on your Mobile Device to Continue with Pair Sony Speaker to iPhone 13

See the screen shot next. We found our speaker, as pointed at by the blue arrow.

Your iPhone then links with the speaker.

Then, the iPhone’s Bluetooth Settings screen then changes to look something like the following.  The blue arrows show the Sony speaker now paired to iPhone.
