We explain how to turn off the Sony XB 22 portable wireless speaker here. Now most speakers have a Power button that Sony places for easy access on the unit. Indeed, this speaker is no exception to this pattern, as we find its Power button in the top button panel. It’s the rightmost button as you face the front of the speaker. See this next.
There’s also a status lamp, just above the Power button, that glows white as long as the speaker is running, but goes dark when you power down the unit. E.g. We point out this lamp in the next picture.
This lamp glows when the speaker is ON, as seen above.
And when you turn off the XB 22, this lamp goes OFF, as we see next.
How to Turn Off Sony XB 22
To power down this unit, press the Power button. Then release after a quarter second. Moreover, you needn’t hold it in for too long for the unit to recognize your press and then shut itself OFF.
When the speaker goes down, all lamps on the unit stop glowing, except for possibly the orange CHARGE lamp. See this in the next picture.
This light continues glowing when the speaker is recharging, no matter whether the speaker itself is ON or OFF. Note that the CHARGE lamp does not tell much about speaker power status. But it does stop glowing when the battery reaches full charge and / or you unplug the charger. It should not light when the speaker is OFF without a charger connected.
Further, this speaker makes no sound when it shuts OFF, although if it is playing something, this sound will stop right away.
But if pressing the Power button does not turn off the speaker, you can try resetting it. For further information, please see our How to Reset Sony XB 22 Wireless Speaker post for further details on how to restore correct operation of the Power button.
And if hard resetting doesn’t solve the issue, try disconnecting the 22 from your charger, and allow it to run dead. Then it will certainly go down. Then at that point, and hopefully, when you recharge it the next time, the Power button will once again work as designed. But if not, the speaker may be out of order, and so you might just have to replace it.
