How to Connect Sony Speaker to iPhone

This post explains how to connect a common Sony wireless Bluetooth speaker like the SRS Extra Bass portable series, with an iPhone or other iOS or iPadOS device.  But since we don’t have a current iPhone at the moment, we’ll show how to do this on an iPad Air, since the routine is just about the same.

How to Connect Sony Bluetooth Speaker to iPhone

With your speaker powered off (status lamp is dark), run through this routine to connect it to your iPhone mobile device.

1. Bring up the Home Screen on your iPhone

First off, press the Home button to get to the iPhone’s Home screen.

2. Find the Settings App

We found ours on the second page of the Home screen, as shown next.

4. Go to Bluetooth Settings to Continue with How to Connect Sony Portable Speaker to iPhone

The Bluetooth settings screen displays as follows. Note that our Bluetooth is enabled here. But since our BT speaker is currently powered OFF and so, not in discovery mode, it does not appear in the BT devices list. Also, we don’t see it since we’ve never paired this Sony speaker with the iPhone before, it should not appear here.

E.g. See this as shown in this list of previously paired Bluetooth devices, shown next.

5. Turn On your Sony Wireless Speaker

Press and release the Power button to power up this speaker.

E.g. See the Power button pointed at by the green arrow in our example speaker, in the next picture.

The speaker then powers up.

But since an iPhone does not know about this speaker if never paired to it before, the Sony will not link with it automatically. The pairing status light pointed at by the arrow in the next picture may either blink fast, slow, or remain dark therefore, to denotes this not-paired state.

6. Put your Sony Speaker into Discovery Mode

Now, to see your BT speaker on your iPhone, place it into Bluetooth pairing mode. On many Sony speaker models, you press and hold the Power button until you hear a couple beeps.  Also, some have a status lamp that begins blinking white or blue.

7. Find your Speaker on your Mobile Device to Continue with How to Connect your Sony Speaker to iPhone

See the screen shot next. We found our speaker, as pointed at by the purple arrow.

Your iPhone then links with the speaker.
